Howe Extreme's 2003 Project |
|
In September 2002,
we purchased a brand new "Hot Chassis" from our friend in North
Carolina. The "Hot" modified will be our primary car for
Jay. Our
"Huff" Modified has been cleaned, painted, and has a new body.
After we drop a engine in it, the Huff will be ready for 2003. The
Huff is going to be used as the primary car for our second driver (Cindy).
It'll also be used as our asphalt car and as our backup car.
We've been
accumulating parts since September for the "Hot". We officially carried
it out of the trailer and onto the lift to begin assembly on November
24th. We'll bring you pictures and updates when available.

Project update:
December 11, 2002. We've got the
shifters, power switch, pedal
assembly, power steering box, and several steering components
installed. We've also secured a
wire barrier
to help protect the radiator from large mud and rocks.
We had a slight
delay in progress when Jay had a "mishap" loading our other car
resulting in 12 stitches above his right eye. The stitches are out
now and he's doing well.
We found a great
deal on an RCI fuel cell last week while we attended the PRI
(Performance Racing Industry) in Indy last week. Hopefully,
by the beginning of next week we'll have the fuel cell mounted, the
cockpit floor and walls completed, and lower control arms mounted.
Keep checking back on our progress...below are more pictures. |

We managed to get the fuel cell mounted without too many complications.
It's a rather unique design for a fuel cell. We also mounted the
lower control arms and finished off the cockpit floor and walls.
We've been surfing
Ebay and have come across several good deals on racing parts and tools.
We've got a Fire Bottle system in route now. Installing that will
probably be one of the next items on the "to-do" list.

February 3, 2003
The fuel lines and brake lines have been run. Steering quickner,
engine plate, MSD box, and Blaster Coil have been mounted.
We dropped the engine into the car
over the weekend to check out the space available for radiator, steering
components, and headers. Of course, this car is built completely
different then our Huff car. Which also means, that we need a new
radiator, steering components, and headers!
We've got parts on order and will
be thrashing again this week. We'll put new pictures up later this
week. |

The radiator came in this week, so we dropped it in the car and I made a
bracket to hold it in place. Jay worked on the front brakes and
spindles. Things are moving along nicely. The rearend
should be ordered soon. Still have a few more
things to pick up. Hopefully, I can begin designing the body next
week.

latest progress. You can

March 11, 2003
The car has really come together nicely. We've got the rear in
place, the car squared, the engine dropped in and power steering
mounted. The sheet metal for the body arrived over the weekend, so
we can get started on that now. There are still a few things to
do, but the "to do" list has rapidly dwindled.
Check out our latest pictures.

April 15, 2003
The winter project has been completed. We hit the track for the
first time this past weekend. Luckily we didn't tear anything
up...so here's the latest and greatest pictures. We've got some
decals to add to the car still, but the work has been completed.
