Monday
it may be the "off season" for us, but as usual, Jay and I have quite a
few racing related projects on our plates. I've been working with our
friend Jim Long, Jr. in North Carolina to develop a website for the
"Championship Modified Tour", a new tour for the fastest Modifieds in
the South East! The site is still under construction, but please
bookmark:
www.champmodtour.com
and keep checking back for
tour information.
As for Jay, he's
been working closely with Jeff Norris and the revitalization of Hilltop
Speedway in Millersburg, Ohio. The track has been shutdown for
nearly 30 years, but Jeff is planning on being ready for the 2006
season. It's an exciting project and the track is actively seeking
sponsors, volunteers, and workers gearing up for the 2006 season.
Jay launched a website for the track and has been working hard updating
it with current photo's, rules, and information. Here's another
site you'll want to bookmark and keep checking to see the progress of
the track:
www.hilltopspeedway.net
We'd like to say
thanks to Doc Lehman and Ryan Pierson for inviting Jay to their radio
show this past weekend to discuss and promote Hilltop Speedway.
Racing will be on Friday Nights with practice beginning in April
(providing we don't have a horrific Ohio Winter). Racing divisions
will include: Super Late Models, Modifieds, Pure Stocks, and Mini
Stocks. For complete rules and details, please visit the above
mentioned official Hilltop website.
Other projects
and news...another racetrack that has plans of reopening in 2006 is
Cannonball Motor Speedway. Cannonball was our "home track" for the
first few years of our Modified career. Even though it's located 2
1/2 hours from Ashland, Cannonball was actually the closest track that
ran Modified's at that time. We've been in negotiations with
Cannonball staff to takeover their track website design and maintenance.
If you have a business, racetrack, race team, or other organization and
would like information on our design and/or web hosting services, please
visit our official site:
www.xtremewebsolutions.com.
What's the
status of our Modified? Well, we took a hard hit on the last lap
of the Ohio Dirt Blowout at Lakeville Speedway for the last event of the
year. It didn't seem "that" bad, but apparently we bent the rear
end along with some frame/chassis bars. The rear end was pulled
and sent to Columbus to get straightened or to have the tube cut and put
back together. We had a bunch of sheet metal damage too.
Jay's redesigned and replaced the entire roof piece. But we still
have to pick up some sheet metal to design the rest of the body.
Engine has been looked over and looks good and healthy, so we "hope"
it's ready for the 2006 season.
What else?
Don't forget about Dave & Ed's Swap Meet in Canton next weekend.
We're planning on digging through the storage unit and pulling stuff out
to bring to the show. We've accumulated quite a few extra items
over the years. Some were spare parts to Modified's we don't even
own anymore, so it's time to clean out some of those items. If you
need anything that we might have, drop us an email. We'll bring it to
the show and keep it set aside for you if we know you'll be there!

Also, our
asphalt Modified friend, Roger Miller is interested in selling his
racing operation. Lot includes Mopar engine, One Complete race car,
plus One Brand NEW bare chassis, a custom built jig for both cars, an enclosed
trailer, a variety of gears, and many many many spare parts.
Trailer is stocked and ready to go racing, that means the tools, spare
parts (many brand new and still in original packaging) and tons of
extras. Roger was one of the guys that originally started Modified
racing in Ohio. So, you can imagine the collection of parts and
equipment he owns. As you may remember from past diary entries, Roger has
many Feature wins and several track championships under his belt.
He has terrific equipment and takes REAL good care of all of it.
Any interested parties can contact us for addition information.
Please note, he's not willing to trade or part the stuff out, it's all
"Lock, Stock, and Barrel".
Even though it's
the "off season", we'll try to keep our diary updated so you'll know
what we've been up to. Keep checking on our "side projects" and
see what's going on with those too!

Saturday
Jay and I drove over to Millersburg this afternoon to take some new
pictures of Hilltop Speedway and see if Jeff needed any help. It's
amazing how much had been accomplished in just one week. Several
racers that stopped by today said they'd bring their cars out and take
some laps today if they could!
Jay and I walked
around the track when we first arrived snapping photo's. By the
time we left, our photo's were already "out dated" and we ended up
taking more! Several poles were knocked down in the infield, quite
a bit of clay and dirt had been moved by the dozers, and we unloaded a
trailer of poles that are going to be used for the guardrail.
A car crusher is
due in a couple of weeks to crush the cars that line the grounds.
They estimate it'll only take a week to crush the cars and remove them.
The place is really shaping up! Check the speedway's website to
see all the improvements as they go.
