The Howe Extreme Racing Team formed in November
1999 when we purchased our first Modified Race Car. The team
joined the AMRA racing organization and kicked off it's first Modified
Season in the Spring of 2000. Jay had a great Rookie Year and was
recognized in both NOW (National Open
Wheel) magazine and
Circle Track Magazine.
Jay's top finish in 2000 was a 3rd place
finish at South Buxton Raceway, Chatham,
Ontario Canada.
At the end of the 2000 racing season, we
purchased a Huff car and a new motor. The 2001 season was exciting
for us. Not only did we race at
AMRA events, but we
also ran against the York Modified Series,
with the Carolina Modified Tour,
and raced at 3 outlaw
events.
Howe Extreme also launched 2 side projects in 2001. We launched
Xtreme Web Solutions,
which is a web design and hosting company. We also launched
Xtreme Racing Promotions,
which runs and promotes racing events.
During 2002 we began publishing a
"Behind the Scenes with Howe
Extreme Racing" diary section on our website. We
didn't leave anything out...it was the good, the bad,
and the ugly all summarized. We were surprised that the diary
quickly became a rather popular section on our site. The 2002
and 2003 diaries have been archived and a 2004 diary has begun.
Late 2002, we
purchased a Hot Chassis
and built it over the Winter for the 2003 season. Plagued with
engine problems during the beginning of the season, we missed several
Road Warrior races, taking us out of the running for points. We
continued racing throughout Ohio, WV, and KY in 2003 and developed a
feel for the new car.
In 2004, we
decided to field a two-car
team. Jay drove our Hot
Modified and Chris Mullinnex drove the Huff. As usual, our 2004
season was full of excitement. Jay totaled the Hot when the
throttle stuck and he put it on it's roof. Thankfully, Hot builds
a great car and Jay's injuries included a broken foot and stretched
ligaments, but he was able to walk away. We replaced that car with
it's sister car, another Hot. Jay's injuries healed and he was
able to finish the season in
Second place at Wayne County
Speedway points race.
In addition to
an exciting racing season for 2004, we were also chosen by
Beachwood Studios as the focus of
their tv pilot titled "Gearhead Nation".
The camera's followed us for the entire season and put together an
awesome 45 minute segment. We're really proud of the segment and
in true Howe Extreme fashion, we were a story of ups & downs to follow!
In 2005, we
dropped back down to a 1-car team and sold the Huff car and spare
engine. We ran a limited schedule at Wayne County Speedway and did
a little traveling. We were able to make a race at Portsmouth
Raceway in Ohio where NASCAR drivers
Kenny Wallace
raced in the Modified division and
Ken Schrader
raced in the Late Model division. It was quite a night. We
had a lot of fun, something always to remember. We also towed down
to Fayetteville, NC
for a race. That was a wonderful time too. We let Charlie
Duncan race the Modified at Wayne County one night and let our friend
Larry Kugel race it several nights so he could stay in the points chase
when his car was broke down.
Our 2006 plans
included moving to South
Carolina, which has put our
racing program on hold. Once we get settled in and financially
stable again, you might see Jay back in a modified and on a dirt track
in Georgia or the Carolina's! If not on the track, I'm sure you'll
see us at a track! So, keep in touch with us see what we get into
next! |
